ALT Linux announces the release of ALT Linux Seventh Platform (p7), a new stable branch of ALT Linux repositories designed for development, testing, distribution, updating and support of all kinds of complex IT systems, ranging from embedded and mobile devices to enterprise servers and data-centers. The Seventh Platform is created by the ALT Linux Team as part of the Sisyphus project and is maintained by the ALT Linux company. <p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Among the principal new features of the Seventh Platform is full support for the ARMv7 architecture. ARMv7 repository (armh) is now integrated into the Seventh Platform, and, thanks to the newest server equipment from Marvell (Marvell Technology Group Ltd), the package versions are now synchronized with the repository based on Intel 32-bit and 64-bit architectures.</p> <p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">The ARMv7 repository contains approximately 10000 source packages that allow to create integrated server, desktop, mobile and embedded systems based on ARMv7 and Intel architectures within the unified framework of the Seventh Platform. The new version comes in two editions - &quot;Simply Linux&quot;, which is an installable live medium featuring the Xfce 4.8 desktop environment, and KDesktop, which is a live and installation DVD image centred around the KDE 4.6.5 desktop. Both editions are built on top of the Linux kernel 3.0.3 and include X.Org Server 1.10.3 and LibreOffice 3.4.2. Other features of this release include hybrid ISO image that can be used either as a DVD image or transferred to a bootable USB drive, GRUB 2 as the default bootloader, simplified installation of third-party applications, and seamless integration with the Dropbox cloud storage system.
